Web Browsers

This site is best viewed with 5.0 browsers and up, or other standards compliant browsers.

Standards Compliant Browser list:

  • Internet Explorer versions: 5, 5.5, 6 (6 being the most compliant version) for Windows delivers fine support for HTML 4, CSS-1, and other important W3C standards. Don’t worry if you don’t know what that means; the people who build your websites know. The browser is available free of charge.
  • Flashpeak Slim Browser is a tabbed multiple-site browser. It incorporates a large collection of powerful features like built-in popup killer, skinned window frame, form filler, site group, quick-search, auto login, hidden sites, built-in commands and scripting, online translation, script error suppression, blacklist / whitelist filtering, URL Alias. It brings you convenient and comfortable browsing.
  • IE 5 Macintosh Edition released in March 2000, provides superb support for key web standards (CSS, HTML, XHTML, PNG, ECMA-262, DOM1HTML) and an elegant user experience. IE5.1, released December 2001, improves on its predecessor. The browser is available free of charge.
  • Netscape 6.2, 7 (7 being the most compliant version) complies with important Web standards, including full support for XML and the DOM. These technologies can help web builders create powerful sites that work well. The browser is available free of charge. Netscape 6.2 fixes bugs in earlier releases, and adds support for Mac OSX. It is based on the standards–compliant Gecko engine and open–source Mozilla, which supports AIX, Linux, Win32, Mac OS, OpenVMS, HPUX, and FreeBSD, and which may be the most compliant of all current browsers.
  • Mozilla Open source browser which Netscape 6.x, 7.x is based on. Also available for many operating systems.
  • Opera 6 for Windows, released November 2001, supports many key web standards and a variety of computing platforms. Its lead designer was the chief author of the CSS-1 standard. The browser, which works well even on older PCs with limited power, is available free of charge. (A pay version is also available.) Opera supports Windows, Linux (beta, but works very well), Mac OS (beta, but works very well), and will soon support the OS/2, EPOC, and BeOS platforms.
  • Konqueror is a full–featured, modern graphical browser for Unix/Linux, with excellent support for web standards including HTML 4, CSS-1, ECMAScript, and the DOM Level 1, and partial support for XML and CSS-2. The current version is not at the same level of compliance, however, as Mozilla, IE, and Opera, and some sites may display incorrectly in Konqueror as a result.
  • Safari Apple's own web browser for OSX and beyond. Based on Konqueror for Linux
  • iRider Advanced web browser that uses the Internet Explorer engine. It lets you browse and manipulate multiple pages and sites much more quickly and easily, and lets you browse much faster by downloading pages while you work.

What about Netscape 4.x?

Netscape 4 was released in June of 1997, over five years ago and is NOT a standards compliant browser. Some of these sites no longer support visual designs for Nestcape 4.x or other non-standards compliant browsers, though the content should still be available to all browsers or internet devices (including screen readers, very old browsers, and text-only browsers). Users of Netscape 4.x (or other non-standards compliant browsers) should consider upgrading to one of the browsers listed above.

What web standards?

The ones created by the World Wide Web Consortium. The browsers listed above have made a commitment to design their products to follow the W3C's standards.

Why is that important?

It's important because many newer technologies depend on these standards in order to operate. The standards allow people to design products to a standard, and code data that can be viewed by any standards compliant agent. What this means for you is a better web experience that uses the latest technology to bring you better web pages faster.
